Sean O’Malley: McGregor UFC 329 injury ‘most disappointing moment in combat sports’

by

Sean O’Malley couldn’t contain his emotions while watching Conor McGregor get injured at UFC 329.

McGregor (22-7 MMA, 10-5 UFC) blew out his knee just seconds into Saturday’s main event rematch against Max Holloway (28-9 MMA, 24-9 UFC) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A devastated McGregor exited the arena hopping while still in his fight gear from a 69-second TKO loss.

O’Malley is a big McGregor fan, so seeing the former UFC dual-champion barely getting to fight after five years away was rough.

“I feel like I’m in shock,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “I cannot believe what just happened. There’s no way he had a previous knee injury going into the fight. … It’s hard for me to believe if he had a previous existing injury. I’m so sad right now. I was going to try to f*cking black out. I was just going to chug (Proper No. 12 whiskey). I was trying to get faded on the pod. I wanted to see that fight play out so bad.

“As much as I wanted Conor to win, I would rather have seen him lose because, dude, talk about battling demons. Conor battles demons. This is going to be harder to battle. It’s hard to quantify. Then if he would have went out there and lost a close fight, or even getting finished later in the fight, he at least he got to go out there and show what he did, show off the work he’s put in.”

McGregor broke the UFC record for highest gate in company history, but now faces another long setback.

“This has got to be 100 percent the most disappointing moment in combat sports history,” O’Malley said.
