One of the top college basketball players still available in the transfer portal has made his decision.
On Tuesday, former Michigan guard LJ Cason committed to coach Jai Lucas and the Miami Hurricanes. Cason originally planned to remain in Ann Arbor for the 2026-27 season, but after coach Dusty May left for the Dallas Mavericks, he took advantage of the transfer portal window and opted to leave last month.

He appeared in 58 games as a reserve in his two seasons with the Wolverines, but he was in the midst of a potential breakout sophomore season when he suffered a torn ACL in late February. He finished the year averaging 8.4 points, 2.4 assists and 1.9 rebounds.
Cason’s injury could hold him out for the beginning of the upcoming season, and he initially planned to take a redshirt year. However, after the NCAA adopted its new “five years to play five seasons” eligibility policy, Cason can play part of the 2026-27 season while still maintaining two more seasons of eligibility.
Miami looking to build off successful Year 1
Lucas and the Hurricanes were one of the biggest success stories in college hoops this season, finishing 26-9 and reaching the Round of 32 in the NCAA tournament. They lost quite a bit of production this offseason, but they’ve replaced those players with a top-10 transfer class.
