Controversial Duke-Michigan hoops matchup has been called off

by

The highly anticipated and much-discussed Duke vs. Michigan men’s hoops game has been called off. There was a lot of controversy about Duke’s exclusive rights deal with Amazon for this contest, and uncertainty as to where the game would and could actually be played.

The Blue Devils wasted no time filling the vacant slot on the calendar, instead agreeing to play Texas Tech at Madison Square Garden on December 21. The Red Raiders edged the Blue Devils at Madison Square Garden a year ago in a thrilling 82-81 victory.

Another factor that might have ultimately led to the cancellation of Duke vs Michigan was the departure of Wolverines head coach Dusty May in June. May and Duke head coach Jon Scheyer were reportedly in close contact during the spring about finding ways to move forward with the contest despite the many hurdles in front of them.
