Fresh off its second-straight Sweet 16 appearance, the UNC women’s basketball team is eager to continue proving itself as a contender.
North Carolina finished its 2025-26 campaign with a 28-8 record, ending with a 63-42 loss to eventual Final Four participant UConn. The Tar Heels earned a couple big wins during their season, most notably at NC State and on Senior Day vs. ranked Duke, with their deepest roster in years contributing to that year-long success.

UNC only has a few matchups announced for its 2026-27, recently adding two on Tuesday. The week before Thanksgiving, North Carolina will face Texas Tech and Alabama in Disney World’s WBCA Showcase.
The Tar Heels and Red Raiders will battle November 19 at 6 p.m., followed by a UNC-Alabama matchup at 5 p.m. on the 21st.
Both Texas Tech and the Crimson Tide are coming off NCAA Tournament appearances of their own, but North Carolina made it further than both their Disney World opponents.
The Tar Heels are tasked with replacing their top four scorers from last season: Nyla Harris, Lanie Grant, Indya Nivar and Elina Aarnisalo. UNC re-loads with names like top overall class of 2026 recruit Kate Harpring and Oklahoma State transfer Achol Akot, while returning key contributors like Nyla Brooks and Reniya Kelly.

Head coach Courtney Banghart is quietly becoming one of the ACC’s best coaches, leading North Carolina to six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. The Tar Heels might not carry a UConn or South Carolina-like pedigree, but they can compete with college basketball’s best.
