The Oregon Ducks are gearing up for a recruiting war in the 2028 cycle against Ohio State, but for once, the Ducks are the team with some family ties helping them out.
Three-star Legarrette Blount Jr. told Rivals (subscription required) that Oregon and Ohio State are standing out to him early in his recruitment out of Phoenix, Arizona. The Ducks have an edge since Blount is the son of former Oregon star running back LeGarrette Blount Sr., who is also a coach for his son’s team at Mountain Pointe High School.

Blount Jr. plays both wide receiver and safety, and his 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame has left his options open to play either position at the next level. He is currently ranked as the No. 14 player from Arizona in the 2028 class.
Oregon’s interest in Blount continues a trend of legacy recruits the Ducks have pursued in recent classes, landing Josiah Molden (son of Oregon corner Alex Molden) in the 2027 class, while Akili Smith Jr. (son of Oregon quarterback Akili Smith Sr.) is currently on the Ducks’ roster.
The Buckeyes hosted Blount Jr. for a camp this summer, but he has yet to lock in any game day visits for the fall. While his father did play for the Ducks, Blount Jr. told Rivals that he didn’t grow up with a dream school in mind. However, the connection to Oregon is still important in the recruitment.

“I’d like to visit the schools that are recruiting me the most so I can continue building strong relationships with their coaching staffs,” Blount told Rivals. “I think visiting campuses and seeing each program in person is an important part of the recruiting process and it will help me make the best decision for my future.”
Nevada is also making a strong push for Blount Jr. early on. As a sophomore, Blount Jr. was used in a rotation on both sides of the ball, making 12 catches for 249 yards and three touchdowns offensively, and 15 tackles, four pass breakups, one interception and a sack on defense. If he plays more as a junior, as stock as a recruit could rise, and the race between Oregon and Ohio State could really heat up.
Blount Sr. played two seasons at Oregon, although he was suspended for much of the 2009 season. In 2008, Blount Sr. ran for 1,002 yards and 17 touchdowns, which was a program record at the time. After going undrafted, Blount Sr. played nine seasons in the NFL and won three Super Bowls.
There is currently no timeline for Blount Jr. to make a decision, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him on both Oregon and Ohio State’s sidelines at some point this fall.
