Thomas Müller may have left Bayern Munich, but his impact on the game is far from over.
Former Manchester City and England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips believes Müller has been just as influential in MLS as he was in Germany, especially when it comes to developing the league’s next generation of talent.

“Thomas Müller is great for football over there, especially for the younger generations being inspired by him. There are players there who have watched him growing up and now have a chance to play with him and pick his brain,” Wright-Phillips told Jackpot City Casino. “Part of the reason I signed for the Red Bulls was because I believed I could help the younger generation, and I think a lot of those players will do that organically too. It’s always great to have icons like Müller over there, but the most important thing is them inspiring and helping younger players.”
Müller has built a legendary career on intelligence, leadership, and an unmatched understanding of the game. While his goals, assists, and trophies will always define his legacy, his ability to mentor teammates has often been just as valuable behind the scenes.
That is exactly what Wright-Phillips sees Müller doing in MLS. Young players who grew up watching Müller lift Champions League trophies and World Cups now have the opportunity to train alongside him every day, learn from his movement, professionalism, and mentality, and accelerate their own development.
For Bayern Munich fans, it is another reminder that although Müller’s influence on football will continue well beyond Bavaria. His greatest contribution in MLS may not just be what he does on the pitch, but the players he helps shape for the future.
