North Carolina fans are starting to get more and more used to the Michael Malone era in Chapel Hill as he’s been on the job for just a few months now. As the Tar Heels prepare for the upcoming first season under the new head coach, we are already starting to see some changes.
Aside from the roster and coaching staff, Malone has made some other key changes that haven’t gone unnoticed.

One in particular is getting the attention of a national college basketball reporter. The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman appeared on “A UNC Basketball Podcast with John Henson” and pointed out something he’s noticed since Malone has taken over. It goes back to the Peach Jam and seeing Malone on the recruiting trail.
“I went to Peach Jam,” college basketball analyst Jeff Goodman said, via A UNC Basketball Podcast with John Henson. “When Hubert was the head coach, he was rarely in the same gym as Jon Scheyer.”
“Now, wherever Scheyer is, Malone is there. I like that. I want to see that from Carolina. I want to see them fighting Duke for the top players.”
Davis had some wins on the recruiting trail, but it rarely involved landing a big-time recruit over Duke. For Malone, he’s targeting some big recruits that Duke is also involved in.

Winning some recruiting battles against Duke is the easiest way to get the fan base and national media’s attention.
Let’s see if Malone can do that and put together some stellar classes.
