This led to a cascading reaction. While many people agreed with Cunningham, many voiced their disagreement. Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve was prominent among the detractors.
As the controversy has raged on, more big names from around the sport have given their takes. And now Stephen A. Smith has gotten involved, calling Reeve out in the process.

Stephen A. Smith says he cares about protecting girls and women, stands for ‘common sense’
This is a divisive topic, to say the least, with some strong feelings on both sides of the issue. Smith believes, however, that it is a matter of simple, common sense.

The ESPN talking head took to social media to make his point clear while calling Reeve out for supposedly working against the interests of the league and the women she represents.
“I’m not backing down from this one,” SAS wrote on X. “You can support people’s rights AND believe biological men shouldn’t compete in women’s sports. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.
“My issue isn’t hate. It’s protecting women, protecting girls, and asking why a WNBA coach chose to inject herself into a controversy that could hurt the very league she’s supposed to represent.

“Common sense still matters. That’s where I stand.”
Stephen A. has been more vocal about politics in recent years, so it’s no surprise to hear from him on the issue. It will be interesting to see if Reeve finds his comments worthy of a response.
