Colorado football got the update it needed on Thursday, and it came straight from head coach Deion Sanders.
After several days of speculation about Danny Scudero’s health, Sanders said his top wideout is progressing from his lower‑body injury and is “most certainly” expected to play in the Sept. 3 opener at Georgia Tech. It is the clearest sign yet that Colorado still expects their projected top wideout to be available when the season starts.

Concern around Scudero spiked on Aug. 1, when he was first seen in a walking boot and on crutches in the background of an Instagram story from receivers coach Rashad Davis. When Colorado opened fall camp a few days later, Scudero did not practice and was spotted riding a scooter on the sideline instead of taking reps with the offense.
The timing was unsettling for Colorado football because of how central Scudero could be to Brennan Marion’s Go‑Go offense. The former Sacramento State and San Jose State standout led all FBS players in regular‑season receiving yards last fall with 1,297 on 88 receptions, earning Biletnikoff Award semifinalist honors and first‑team All‑Mountain West recognition. At 5‑foot‑9 and 175 pounds, he shows quickness and elite change of direction with two years of eligibility left in Boulder.
Colorado still has depth if the staff decides to manage Scudero’s snaps early. Texas transfer DeAndre Moore Jr., now back to full speed after a spring leg injury, can handle a heavy target share, while Sacramento State transfer Ernest Campbell gives the Buffs another high‑end speed option in space.
For now, though, Sanders’ update is exactly what Colorado needs to hear. The image of crutches, a boot and a scooter raised real questions about Scudero’s Week 1 status. With Georgia Tech less than a month away, the Buffs again expect their most productive receiver to be on the field when the games matter.
