“No surprise, as the 49ers made an official move to add a lineman. They signed Kion Smith. The corresponding move was to waive Colton Dowell. Smith started the first three games of the season for Miami last year at right guard. He was good for the first two games, but struggled in the third game against the Bills, based on his blown block rate.”
The Good and Not So Good from Day 8 of 49ers Camp: Brock Purdy is Raising his Game
“Absolutely eviscerated the starting defense today while throwing to wide receivers named Malik Turner and KhaDarel Hodge. Technically, Purdy’s No. 1 receiver on the field is Deebo Samuel, but he can’t get open, so Purdy is forced to go through his progressions and fire tight-window throws to players who may or may not make the final roster. And despite all this, he threw two deep touchdown passes today and no interceptions. In fact, he has thrown just one interception in all of camp. He’s making good, quick decisions, and he’s playing with the most confidence I’ve ever seen from him. There’s no question that he’s having the best camp of his career. Unfortunately for him, his offensive line is shaky, his running game is non-existent and his receivers mostly are injured. The 49ers need to get him some help before he gets injured like last season.”

“‘The layer king’ has some really intensive intensity, and I like that about him. It’s really fun for me when you get a chance to get some of those call-it periods and you get a chance to go in the back with the offense and you call your play and you get a chance to just hear him operate. You’re listening to him and you’re able to hear him operate and you’re able to hear him operate in a very pro manner. How he communicates with the coaches, how he’s very up front. Today he got fired up, which was cool, which was fun, which was competitive, and I love that. When he does those things, it just makes the team go. I watch that team go out there and basically have a fight for an hour and a half, and then hug at the end of practice and cheer for each other. It’s the weirdest thing ever. It’s awesome. It was a lot of fun with that guy. He’s awesome.”

But there was nothing that could be done to prevent a completion on a deep crossing route with Purdy’s perfect throw and Deebo Samuel’s contested catch.”
