Former Nashville Predators defenseman Nick Blankenburg is still on the free agent market, despite being a solid depth option for essentially any team.
Blankenburg, who spent parts of two seasons with the Predators, was traded to the Colorado Avalanche ahead of the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline.

In 109 games with the Predators, Blankenburg’s level of play took a major step forward from what he had previously done with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He established himself as an effective player on both ends of the ice and recorded 37 points (10 goals and 27 assists) during his time in Nashville.
While Blankenburg likely isn’t an ideal everyday player for a playoff team, he could fill that role for a rebuilding team or could serve as a strong depth option for a contender due to his ability to play on both sides of the blue line.
As a 5-foot-9 undrafted player, Blankenburg has had to overcome the odds considerably to even be in the conversation for an NHL job. At this stage though, it seems that he should get at least a professional tryout with a team heading into training camp.
