Dillon Brooks has been the type of enemy who gets in the way of superstars, regardless of accolades.
Speaking with Brooks, the Phoenix Suns wing detailed strategies for going up against superstars like James Harden.
“I’m like, ‘You know what? I’m gonna guard James Harden next time we play.’ I can guard James. That’s light.” “He doesn’t want no physicality, and all he wants to do is go left. You make him go right, and it’s over. I know the step-back’s coming. I know the foul-bait move is coming. When he gets to his right hand, he wants to just pass the ball,” Brooks said, per Josh Chambers.
The 6-foot-7 defender discussed the importance of scouting reports, where he established his name as the villain because of preventing plays.
“I do a scouting report on everybody. Everybody. That year in Memphis, I was studying dudes’ games like every night. Just watching video, watching their shots for the last five games, watching plays that they love to run,” he said.
Meanwhile, players like Brooks were unusual in the league, as he had a greater impact on defense than on offense.
“Try to beat their plays. Know their moves. Now I’m just sitting at home watching games all day. You got to. As a basketball player, you want to be at the next level. You can’t just leave it up to these guys, the coaches to do it. So you got to do your own work,” Brooks added.
However, the Canadian forward caught a break with the Suns after averaging 20.2 points, 3.6 boards, and 1.8 assists per game in the previous season.
