Matt Rhule reveals his favorite Nebraska victory

by

Matt Rhule is entering his fourth year with the Cornhuskers and the previous three seasons have had highs and lows. When asked what his favorite win as the Husker head coach was, he mentioned an old rival, the Colorado Buffaloes.

Nebraska hosted the Buffaloes on Sept. 7, 2024, and defeated Colorado 28-10. The win improved the Huskers’ record to 2-0 on the season and into the top 25 for the first time since 2019.

The meeting was the 73rd game in this series, with Nebraska leading Colorado all-time 50-21-2. There are no future meetings scheduled between the two teams.

Rhule told CBS Sports that defeating Colorado after the previous year’s loss was one of the most fulfilling victories during his time in Lincoln.

“I enjoyed beating Colorado. Saturday night football. Sold out. Nebraska-Colorado is a great rivalry with a great coach… They had beaten us the year before and on our way off the field they were sure to tell us about it. Beating them was a rewarding moment.”

Nebraska opens the 2026 season on Saturday, Sept. 5, when the Ohio Bobcats visit Memorial Stadium. Kickoff time is set for 11 a.m. CT and can be seen on FS1.
