Enes Kanter is at the centre of an ongoing debate around whether transgender athletes should be allowed to compete in the WNBA.
The discourse began when Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham spoke about protecting young girls from ‘biological males’.

In the aftermath, both Enes Kanter and former NBA player Royce White declared for the WNBA draft next year.
But now, Kanter has suggested that two more ex-NBA players could consider ‘coming out as women and putting their names in the 2027 WNBA Draft’.

Enes Kanter suggests former NBA players could join WNBA
Taking to his official X/Twitter account, Kanter stated: “Now, listen to me very carefully! So far, I’ve spoken with: 2 Former NBA players, 3 G-League players, 3 European players.
“They have all said that if the @WNBA doesn’t change the rules, they’re ready to join the movement and are considering coming out as women and putting their names in the 2027 #WNBA Draft.

“Hear me out; The @NBA G- League pays players $45,000 a year, while the #WNBA top players earn $1.4 Million. Those ‘men’ could earn an extra $1,355,000 a year by just identifying as women. Rules are rules.”
At present, the WNBA rules say that ‘Only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA’.
However, the rule does not define what a woman is, which is something Kanter and others are highlighting when speaking about the WNBA.
The WNBA have held a meeting about the ongoing debate around trans athletes, but at the time of writing, they have not made any public changes to their rules.
