Two-Time Olympian Phoebe Bacon Making Move to UVA Pro Group
Two-time Olympian Phoebe Bacon took to social media on Friday to announce that she is moving her training base to Charlottesville, home of the high-powered University of Virginia program. Bacon is coming off the Pan Pacific Championships and has spent the last six years at the University of Wisconsin, where she competed collegiately and worked during the beginning of her professional career.
Bacon has represented the United States on a regular basis in international competition, including at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. She was fifth at the 2020 Games in the 200 backstroke and was fourth in the event at the 2024 Games, touching just .04 off the podium. At the 2022 World Championships, Bacon was the silver medalist in the 200 backstroke. Last year, Bacon qualified for the World Champs in Singapore in the 200 individual medley.
In her Instagram post, Bacon expressed appreciation for her time at Wisconsin and what the coaching staff in Madison provided. She also noted that her move to Charlottesville will have her closer to Maryland, where she grew up.
“And just as there is a time for everything in life, it’s now time for a new chapter for me,” Bacon wrote. “I’m incredibly excited for what’s ahead as I move to Charlottesville, VA – a place very close to home and my family. And I’m ready to begin working alongside my friends at UVA. Thank you Wisconsin! Forever a Badger.”
Bacon will join a UVA group that features some of the best swimmers in the world. She is the second backstroker to move to the program as a pro, joining Isabelle Stadden, who has enjoyed excellent results during her time in Virginia.
