Astros vs. Yankees prediction: Odds, recent stats, trends, and best bets for August 25

by

One of the less talked but no less intense rivalries in the American League is renewed tonight when the Yankees (74-56) open a three-game series against the Astros (65-66) in the Bronx. Winners of six of their last seven, the Yankees have pulled to within three games of the Rays who sit atop the AL East. Houston has lost three of their last four to drop a half game behind the Rangers in the AL West. They also sit a half game in back of the Guardians for the final Wild Card spot.

Despite Aaron Judge‘s continued absence, the Yankees’ bats have come alive. Over the last five games, New York is averaging five runs per game. Couple that with a pitching staff that has been elite from the jump this season and you have the ingredients for a deep run in October. Those ingredients are not as plentiful in Houston. A pitching staff that was less than deep prior to the start of the season has been further depleted due to injuries coupled with a lineup that is limited despite featuring AL MVP favorite Yordan Alvarez and it is obvious why they are struggling to stay afloat even in a bad division.

Ethan Pecko (0-0, 4.91 ERA) makes his second career start tonight for Houston. The righthander lasted 3.2 innings in his debut last Wednesday against the Angels, allowing three hits and two earned runs. Aaron Boone hands the ball to Will Warren (8-6, 4.43 ERA). The Yankee hurler appeared to be the odd man out of the rotation a little over a week ago when Carlos Rodon was activated from the injured list until Max Fried (bone bruise) was put on the shelf. Warren has not been bad but has been more inconsistent than the rest of the starters in Pinstripes. His last start was this past Wednesday in Baltimore. He lasted four innings and allowed three hits and two runs.

Lets dive into tonight’s matchup and find a sweat or two.
