Prior to Tuesday’s series opener against the Houston Astros, the Yankees made a couple of moves to their 40-man roster.
First, New York selected the contract of right-hander Justin Topa, calling him up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and adding him to the 40-man roster. He will be available starting Tuesday night against the Astros.

To make room for Topa on the 40-man roster, the Yankees transferred Giancarlo Stanton to the 60-day IL following his injury setback during rehab.
Topa, 35, has pitched in the big leagues for the last seven seasons and was pitching for the Minnesota Twins this year before getting DFA’d and subsequently released in May after pitching to a 8.05 ERA in 23 appearances. New York signed him to a minor league contract on Aug. 14.
The right-hander pitched well for the Twins in 2025, owning a 3.90 ERA across 60 innings in 54 games. His best season, though, came with the Seattle Mariners in 2023 where he saw action in 75 games and had a 2.61 ERA.
With the RailRiders in Triple-A, Topa had a 1.80 ERA in four appearances before getting promoted.
In his career, Topa owns a 4.27 ERA in 168.2 innings pitched.
