Umar Nurmagomedov made sure to lock in a title shot when he faced Cory Sandhagen.
Back at UFC on ABC 7 in 2024, Nurmagomedov and Sandhagen were given a title eliminator opportunity with their main event clash in Abu Dhabi. With so much at stake, Nurmagomedov delivered a dominant performance, winning 50-45 on one judge’s scorecard and two 49-46. The victory earned him a title shot at then-UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili – a fight he went on to lose in a close decision.

Nurmagomedov (20-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) returns to the cage this Saturday in the main event of UFC Fight Night 286 (Paramount+) in Shanghai, China. The Dagestani fighter takes on China’s Song Yadong (23-9-1 MMA, 12-4-1 UFC) in a five-round contest.
