NASCAR has found something different with its trip to Naval Base Coronado this year.
After making history at Naval Base Coronado in 2026, NASCAR announced that the series will return to the San Diego military installation on August 1, 2027. The O’Reilly Auto Parts Series will race there the day before.

But the biggest part of the announcement may be what comes after Coronado. NASCAR says it wants to rotate future military-installation races beginning in 2028, opening the door to different locations and potentially different branches of the military.
Trusted account Stock Car Rumors & Nostalgia raised an interesting question: Could the U.S. Space Force eventually become part of NASCAR’s military-base race rotation?
Coronado Could Be the Blueprint
The 2026 Coronado event proved NASCAR can turn an active military installation into a temporary race venue.
The Qualcomm Circuit stretched 3.4 miles with 16 turns, using roads, tarmac and runway sections around the base. Corey Heim won the inaugural Cup race, giving NASCAR a memorable first chapter for the project.

NASCAR then spent time reviewing what worked and what needed improvement before committing to a 2027 return, which matters because it means this is no longer looking like a one-time experiment. It’s becoming a model NASCAR can potentially take somewhere else.
Why Space Force Is So Intriguing

There is no confirmation that NASCAR is planning a Space Force race.
Still, the possibility is fascinating because the Space Force connection is not entirely new. The branch was involved in the Freedom 250 Grand Prix held in August 2026, an IndyCar Series event rather than a NASCAR race. That does not mean a Space Force NASCAR event is being planned, but it does show that the military branch has already been part of a major motorsports event.

The bigger problem would be finding the right installation.
Space Force facilities are heavily involved in missions involving launches, satellites, communications and tracking. Bringing thousands of fans, temporary grandstands and a race operation onto one of those bases would create obvious security and logistical challenges.
Coronado had a major advantage: NASCAR could build its temporary course around existing roads and tarmac while working closely with the Navy.
A Space Force event would need that same kind of workable footprint. So, for now, Space Force remains a question—not a confirmed destination.

But NASCAR has already opened the door.
If the military race rotation becomes a yearly tradition, should Space Force get its own weekend? Or should NASCAR visit another branch first?
