The Seattle Storm have temporarily suspended Spanish rookie Awa Fam. Fam was drafted with the third overall pick in the 2026 WNBA draft.
The Storm were eliminated from playoff contention on Aug. 7. They sit at the bottom of the league standings with a 7-31 record, and were the first team eliminated from the postseason race.

Fam’s suspension on Thursday caused confusion among fans. Some thought the Storm had waived Fam, while others pointed out that it would allow her to train with the Spain national team before the FIBA World Cup.
“Scared me for a second ngl,” one fan said.

The FIBA World Cup is set to start on Sept. 4. With the Storm eliminated, Fam can now return to Spain and train for the upcoming tournament.
Seattle Storm’s abysmal season
With the arrivals of Flau’jae Johnson and Awa Fam, the Storm looked strong on paper. Dominique Malonga, Natisha Hiedeman and Zia Cooke rounded out a good roster.
However, things did not pan out that way. Despite some good performances from rookies Johnson and Fam, there was little to celebrate about the Storm this season.
Another player who earned plaudits for her season was Dominique Malonga. The second-year center earned an All-Star selection. She averaged 17 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
