Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball just added another huge piece to the future of the program.
Nate Oats and his staff landed their first commitment in the 2027 recruiting class with four-star point guard Anderson Diaz announcing his commitment to Alabama, giving the Crimson Tide yet another explosive young guard to build around moving forward.

And make no mistake about it, this is a big-time pickup for Alabama basketball.
Diaz is regarded as one of the top guards in the country and one of the fastest-rising prospects in the 2027 class. The 6-foot-1 playmaker is ranked as the No. 29 overall prospect nationally, the No. 6 point guard in America, and the No. 4 player in Georgia according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. ESPN is even higher on him, ranking him No. 16 overall nationally.
When you turn on the tape, it’s not hard to understand why.
Diaz plays with confidence, pace, toughness, and creativity with the basketball in his hands. He’s quick off the dribble, attacks downhill aggressively, and has the kind of flashy playmaking ability that fits perfectly inside Oats’ up-tempo system.
The Bronx native spent this past season playing for Overtime Elite with the Cold Hearts, where he put together some eye-opening numbers. In 16 games, Diaz averaged 17.2 points, 7.0 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game while handling primary point guard duties.

What stands out the most is how dynamic he already is as a creator. Seven assists per game at that level shows he’s not just a scorer, he’s a true floor general capable of making everyone around him better.
And when the lights were brightest, Diaz showed he could take over games.
In his final game of the season, he exploded for 36 points, six rebounds, eight assists, and three steals, showing exactly why major programs across the country were pushing hard for him.
This summer on the Nike EYBL circuit with the NY Rens, Diaz has continued proving he belongs among the nation’s elite prospects. He’s currently averaging over 20 points per game while continuing to showcase his ability as both a scorer and facilitator.

The list of schools that wanted him tells you just how important this commitment is for Alabama. Diaz chose the Crimson Tide over offers from programs like Auburn, Arkansas, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Villanova, Syracuse, UCLA, Ole Miss, Pitt, Illinois, Seton Hall, and St. John’s among many others.
That’s another statement recruiting win for Nate Oats.
One thing Alabama fans should also keep an eye on is the possibility of Diaz reclassifying into the 2026 class. Reports have already surfaced that a move up could eventually happen, and if it does, it would only make this commitment even more intriguing for the Crimson Tide moving forward.
Either way, Alabama just landed one of the most electric young guards in the country.

The future in Tuscaloosa continues to look very, very bright.
