Just when the college football coaching carousel was thought to be done, a major position opened up.
Following multiple investigations that found he “bullied and belittled female athletic staffers,” Stanford decided to fire head coach Troy Taylor. The move comes after the former Sacramento State head coach spent just two seasons on the job, going 6-18 at a program that is desperately attempting to claw its way back into national relevance after routinely being one of the best programs in the 2010s.
While it is unlikely that Stanford will find a head coach before spring ball starts next week, some names have been tossed out as candidates for after the 2025 season. One name that could frighten Alabama fans is offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.

247Sports’ Cooper Petagna tabbed Gurbb as a name found “interesting” for the role.

“Ryan Grubb, you know if you’re an Alabama fan, it’s like, ‘Oh man, this guy again?’…He came the first time with Kalen DeBoer, and then he was off to the NFL. We’ll see what happens there, but he’s a pretty interesting option,” said Petagna.
Grubb has been with DeBoer every step of the way throughout his career, but it may be hard to turn down what would be his first head coaching gig. If Stanford is able to lure him away from Tuscaloosa back to the West coast, it would be a tough blow for Alabama.

That being said, the expectation is that Stanford will go the interim route in the meantime, which means Alabama fans should get to enjoy a Grubb offense for at least one season.
Grubb’s offense finished first and second in passing yards per game in 2022 and 2023, and also saw Michael Penix Jr. emerge as a Heisman finalist and a first-round pick.
