Alabama football is losing a key piece of its secondary to the transfer portal.
Jaylen Mbakwe, a freshman cornerback for Alabama who played in 10 games for the Crimson Tide, is entering the transfer portal according to multiple reports. Mbakwe later shared the report on his Instagram.
Mbakwe, a former five-star and the No. 12 player in the 2024 class per 247Sports’ composite rankings, had 15 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, one interception and two pass deflections for the Crimson Tide.
Mbakwe is the third defensive back to enter the transfer portal along with Husky DeVonta Smith and cornerback Jahlil Hurley.
Mbakwe is the 14th Alabama player to enter the portal and the second on Dec. 16th, joining Emmanuel Henderson, who also entered the portal Monday.
The NCAA’s winter transfer portal window closes Dec. 28. Players who enter the portal by that date can choose their new school at any point after the window closes.
