Alabama Holds Serve in Home Meet Against LSU, Florida State
The University of Alabama swim and dive teams welcomed Louisiana State and Florida State Friday, and the Crimson Tide came out on top in all categories.
The Alabama women edged LSU 157.5-142.5 while beating Florida State 196.5-103.5, with LSU taking down the Seminoles 201-99. On the men’s side, Bama took down LSU 167-133 while beating Florida State 191-109. LSU beat FSU 161.5-138.5.
The Alabama women’s team of Emily Jones, Kasia Norman, Jada Scott and Cadence Vincent won the 200 medley relay by a second to open the meet, finishing in 1:35.10. Liberty Williams followed up with a win in the 1000 freestyle (9:40.58), and veteran Diana Petkova was the winner of the 100 breaststroke (59.21). Vincent won the 50 free in 22.06, and she returned to top the 100 free as well (48.10).
Williams won again in the 500 free, coming from behind in the final 100 yards to edge out LSU’s Nicole Santuliana by 12-hundredths, 4:43.03 to 4:43.15. Bama’s Victoria Raymond topped the 100 butterfly (52.42), and Petkova took a swcond win in the 200 IM (1:57.54).
For LSU, Reagan Osborne topped the 200 free (1:46.18), and Zoe Carlos-Broc won the 100 backstroke (51.81). Sofia Sartori pulled away to win the 200 fly (1:55.10), and she won again in the 200 back (1:54.70). Grace Palmer won the 200 breast (2:08.62), The 1-meter diving event went to Montserrat Lavenant (298.10).
The team of Carlos-Broc, Michaela De Villiers, Megan Barnes and Osborne capped off the meet with a win in the 400 free relay, clocking 3:15.63 to beat Alabama by five hundredths. The Crimson Tide led for almost the entire race, but the last three splits for the Tigers were all 48s, and Osborne ran down Bama anchor Charlotte Rosendale to pull ahead.
Florida State’s only win on the women’s side came courtesy of Samantha Vear in 3-meter diving (343.00).
On the men’s side, Leonardo Alcantara paced Alabama in the 1000 free (8:53.81) before Charlie Hawke blasted a time of 1:33.16 to win the 200 free. Kaique Alves was the winner of the 100 breast (52.64), and Tommy Hagar came through for a huge win in the 200 back (1:39.88).
Alcantara won again in the 500 free (4:17.71), edging out Hawke by a tenth, and Bernardo De Almeida won the 100 fly (46.09). Alves, Hawke, De Almeida and Toni Dragoja concluded the meet wit ha 400 free relay clocking of 2:50.28 to take the win, with Hawke’s 41.95 split leading the way.
LSU opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay from Simon Casey, Levi Thome, Pawel Uryniuk and Ryder Gentry (1:24.41). Stepan Goncharov took first in the 100 back (45.43). In the sprint events, Jere Nribar won the 50 free (19.24) and 100 free (42.08), and he also split 41.57 on LSU’s 400 free relay later in the meet. LSU’s Carson Paul won 1-meter diving (361.65), and teammate Zayne Danielewicz won on 3-meter (391.45).
The Seminoles’ Logan Robinson topped the 200 fly in 1:42.65, and Tommaso Baravelli took first in a tight finish of the 200 breast, touching in 1:56.62 as he ran down LSU’s Thome (1:56.74). Mathias Christensen was the first-place finisher in the 200 IM (1:45.86).
