The heavyweight division will move on while champion Tom Aspinall recovers from double eye surgery. Pereira will challenge for a portion of the heavyweight title when he meets Ciryl Gane for the interim belt.

After reclaiming his belt with a quick TKO of Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320, Pereira (13-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) vacated his light heavyweight title for a move up to heavyweight. He is a former middleweight and light heavyweight champion, and will look to become the first fighter in UFC history to win belts in three different divisions.
Former interim champion Gane (13-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) challenged Aspinall for the heavyweight title at UFC 321, but the fight was ruled a no contest in Round 1 after eye pokes rendered Aspinall unable to continue.

According to FanDuel, Pereira is a slight -120 favorite to make history over Gane, who is a -106 underdog.
