A leading featherweight contender has cast doubt on whether Movsar Evloev will make it to his next fight.

The 19-0 Russian is scheduled to face Lerone Murphy in the main event of UFC London on March 21.

The winner of that bout is expected to be next in line for a title shot, following Alexander Volkanovski’s recent defence against Diego Lopes at UFC 325 earlier this month.

Sterling looking to step in as backup for UFC London main event

Aljamain Sterling, the former UFC bantamweight champion, is hoping to have a key role at UFC London.

‘Funk Master’ has concerns that Movsar Evloev might withdraw from his fight with Lerone Murphy.

He’s looking to be on standby to replace the man he lost a decision against at UFC 310 back in December 2024.

Sterling spoke about the situation on Home of Fight. “I’m trying to throw my name in the hat to be a backup for that London card,” he said. “Movsar is one of the most unreliable guys that pulls out of how many fights?

Sterling continued: “Sometimes his opponent doesn’t make it to the fight, but usually it’s him. So, I wouldn’t mind going back to the UK with the mandem and seeing my grandparents and cousins over there.

“I think that would be fun. Obviously, cutting weight sucks. But if I get the chance to fight either one of those guys and win, I think the writing’s on the wall that I get another title shot long before it’s overdue.”

UFC London card draws mixed reaction from fans

The response from fans was lukewarm after the full lineup for UFC London was unveiled.

There were complaints about the lack of star power, and some questioned the way the fights had been ordered.
