All-Big Ten Transfer To Visit ACC Program After Penn State Trip

Former Rutgers linebacker Mohamed Toure continues to evaluate his options after entering the spring transfer portal on April 25.

The All-Big Ten selection visited with head coach James Franklin and the Nittany Lions on Tuesday after spending the last three seasons with the Scarlet Knights.

Toure originally signed with Rutgers as a three-star recruit out of Pleasantville, New Jersey in the class of 2019. After playing sparingly over his first two seasons, Toure broke out in 2021.

The 6-foot-2, 236-pound linebacker totaled 51 tackles, eight tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks that season and was poised to be the leader of the defense in 2022.

Unfortunately, Toure tore his ACL during spring practice and missed the entire 2022 season. But he worked his way back into the lineup the following season and posted a career year.

Toure posted 93 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, an interception, two pass breakups and a forced fumble in 13 games, earning an honorable All-Big Ten mention.

Another ACL tear thwarted Toure’s 2024 campaign and he ultimately missed his second season due to injury over the last three years.

Even still, Toure’s previous production and experience with 37 games under his belt have drawn interest from top programs like Penn State and Miami.

Head coach Mario Cristobal’s Hurricanes have emerged as a contender for Toure after scheduling a visit for Thursday, according to a report from 247Sports.

The last time Toure met the Hurricanes, he racked up eight total tackles with two tackles for loss and a sack in Rutgers’ 31-24 win in the 2023 Pinstripe Bowl.

Cristobal and Co. have made significant efforts in the 2025 transfer cycle after a 10-3 season in 2024. The offensive overhaul includes Georgia transfer quarterback Carson Beck alongside wide receivers Keelan Marion (BYU) and CJ Daniels (LSU).

But there are more questions for a defensive unit that finished 69th in scoring defense last season.

In response, Miami brought in new coordinator Corey Hetherman from Minnesota and has added multiple four-star transfer defenders in cornerbacks Xavier Lucas (Wisconsin), Charles Brantley (Michigan State) and Ethan O’Connor (Washingon State) with safety Zechariah Poyser (Jacksonville State).

Toure, when healthy, could be an instant-impact player for whoever lands his services with 23 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks in his career.
