Lakshya Sen beat world number one Shi Yu Qi 23-21, 19-21, 21-17 in the first round of the All England Open 2026 being played at the Utilita Arena Birmingham.
Sen battled hard for an hour and 18 minutes to defeat the defending champion.
Earlier, Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila progressed to the second round after defeating Malaysian pair Hoo Pang Ron and Cheng Su Yin 21-17, 21-19.
However, Malvika Bansod lost 21-11, 21-6 to Chen Yufei in the women’s singles.
