Andrew McCutchen returns to Pirates on one-year deal

Veteran slugger Andrew McCutchen is returning to the Pittsburgh Pirates, the team announced on social media.

McCutchen received a one-year deal worth $5 million, a source told ESPN, confirming a report by MLB.com.

The 16-year-veteran hit .232 with 20 home runs and 50 RBIs in 120 games for Pittsburgh last season, his 11th with the Pirates organization, appearing primarily as the team’s designated hitter.

McCutchen, 38, a former MVP and five-time All-Star, has a batting average of .238 with 319 home runs and 1,095 RBIs in his career.
