Angel Reese is one of the most recognizable names in women’s sports. Reese first broke onto the scene with the LSU Tigers when she won the 2023 national championship under the leadership of coach Kim Mulkey, defeating Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Reese would go on to be drafted No. 7 by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA draft.
Reese became an instant star in the WNBA, making the All-Star team and the WNBA All-Rookie team, along with leading the league in rebounding her rookie season. She improved upon her game in the 2025 season, raising her field goal percentage, points per game, assists per game, and, once again, led the WNBA in rebounding.

Despite Reese’s individual success and accolades, the Sky have not seen similar team success. They went 13-27 in Reese’s rookie year, finishing last in the Eastern Conference. Chicago performed even worse last year, finishing 10-34, tied for last in the entire league.

Reese is currently preparing for her third season in the WNBA, but she found time on Monday to comment on the Rutgers women’s basketball coaching hire. After a disappointing 9-20 season, along with missing the NCAA tournament the last five seasons, the Scarlet Knights decided to get rid of head coach Coquese Washington after four years. On Monday, Rutgers announced that it is hiring Gary Redus II as the team’s new head basketball coach.

Redus II has been on Mulkey’s staff as an assistant coach for LSU since the 2022-2023 season, back when Reese attended the University. Redus II will have the opportunity to turn around the Scarlet Knights beginning in the 2026-27 women’s college basketball season.
Reese went to X, posting, “So deserving! Proud of you my guy!!”
The Sky have the No. 5 pick in the upcoming 2026 WNBA Draft, which begins on April 13th.
