Angel Reese rips WNBA officials for missed foul calls, expects fine: ‘Do better’

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese is in the midst of her best stretch since joining the WNBA. Over her last five games, Reese is averaging 17 points and an astounding 17.4 rebounds.

But she’s not happy.

Despite the dominant run, Reese expressed frustration over missed calls following Sunday’s 80-75 loss to the Minnesota Lynx. Reese initially responded to a photo in which she’s being grabbed while going up for a shot, saying it was “diabolical” that she didn’t get the call.

When an X user pointed out that Reese will get fined for that tweet, she said she didn’t care, tagged the WNBA account and told officials to “do better.”

Reese is in the middle of another strong WNBA season. After finishing second in the Rookie of the Year voting and receiving down ballot MVP votes last season, Reese has been better in her second season. She’s improved her field-goal and free-throw percentage, and is dishing out more assists and picking up more steals than last season. While her total rebounds and scoring are slightly down, Reese’s recent stretch of play should quickly erase that gap.

Her performance earned Reese her second straight selection to the WNBA All-Star Game, and could once again get her MVP votes at the end of the season.

Despite Reese’s excellence, the Sky are scuffling. Through 17 games, the team is just 5-12, and has the second worst record in the WNBA. Getting more foul calls would likely help — especially in close games — but the team would need a lot more than that to turn the season around.
