Angharad Evans Selected to Team Scotland for Commonwealth Games; Ben Higson Named Head Coach

Angharad Evans is the second swimmer to be pre-selected for Team Scotland for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Evans, who finished sixth in the 100m breaststroke on her Olympic debut at Paris 2024, joins Duncan Scott who was named to the Scottish team in November last year virtue of his gold with the GB men’s 4×2 relay at the Singapore worlds.

Evans will make her Commonwealth debut at the meet that will be held at Tollcross International Swimming Centre from 24-29 July.

The University of Stirling swimmer is the sole British woman to have broken 1:06 for the 100 breast and owns the top six times in domestic waters topped by her 1:05.37 national record set at the British Championships last year. The 22-year-old also has a best of 2:21.86 in the 200 which makes her the third-fastest British woman all-time.

She first reached the international podium at the 2024 short-course worlds with the women’s medley relay squad that won silver.

Evans claimed her first international solo medal with 200 breaststroke silver at short-course Europeans in Lublin in December 2025.

She said through Scottish Swimming: “To be the first female on the team is a really special moment for me. It gives me a lot more confidence in my abilities and makes me want to make Scotland proud at the Commonwealth Games.”

Also heading to Glasgow 2026 is Ben Higson who has been named Team Scotland Head coach. Higson is head coach at the University of Stirling where the programme numbers the likes of Scott, Tom Dean, Jack McMillan and Evans. He made his Scotland coaching debut at the 2014 Commonwealths which were also held in Glasgow.

“It’s an absolute honour and a privilege to be part of Team Scotland again,” he said. “Glasgow 2014 was my first senior international coaching experience, and I can’t wait to get back and experience that again.”
