Anne Goodman James Wins CSCAA Lifetime Achievement Award

Former Colorado College coach Anne Goodman James has been named the winner of the 2025 CSCAA Lifetime Achievement award.

Goodman James led the Tigers from 2007 until her retirement last year, culminating 48 years in coaching. She coached 99 All-Americans and 29 national champions in her career across all divisions. She helped Colorado College into contention in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, including a national ranking at the end of 2012, the Tigers’ first since the 1970s.

She graduated from Texas Tech in 1976. She coached at her alma mater in two stints, from 1976-80 and 1982-86, with a year at Cal State Hayward in between. She also coached at Northern Michigan from 1986-96 and the University of Arkansas from 1996-2006, serving as the assistant athletic director for five years at NMU. She was twice named the NCAA Division II Coach of the Year (1988 and 1991), was three times a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coach of the year and was inducted to the NMU Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. She served on the NCAA Swimming and Diving Committee from 1987-94 and 2007-13.

Goodman James served as CSCAA’s president from 1993-95. She won the Richard E. Steadman Award in 2005 and is a member of the CSCAA Hall of Fame.

“Beyond her impressive coaching résumé, Goodman James has been a fierce advocate for the sport, contributing her expertise to the CSCAA and other organizations,” a CSCAA press release read. “She has championed diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, ensuring that collegiate swimming and diving provide opportunities for all athletes. Her leadership extends to mentoring young coaches, shaping the future of the profession.”

The lifetime achievement award will be bestowed by the College Swim Coaches Association of America at its Annual Meetings and Awards Celebration in Raleigh, N.C., May 4-6.
