Anonymous SEC coaches take shots at Rams selecting Ty Simpson

It’s been almost two weeks since the LA Rams drafted Ty Simpson and the football world is still a buzz.

Some SEC coaches and assistant coaches are still wondering why the Rams took Simpson has as high as they did according to a story done by ESPN.

“For him to go that high, I was a little bit like, ‘Wow, OK,'” the coach said, via Adam Rittenberg of ESPN. “I don’t know how he practices, I don’t know his mind. They were saying he was banged up in the back stretch, but he was just OK. Maybe he has those qualities that you can’t coach that some of these [NFL teams] fell in love with.”

“It’s a great fit for him from a system standpoint, and who he’s going to be behind for a year, an SEC coordinator said via a story from ESPN.com. There are a lot of similarities [with Stafford]. [The pick] was the biggest [surprise], a guy who didn’t have a ton of starts, but when he played, he played well. His long game is going to be really good.

Before he suffered a back injury, Simpson was a top Heisman candidate, but he was injured in the Missouri game and was inconsistent the rest of the season.

Despite that, he did lead his team to the SEC Championship Game, an 11-win season, and a road win in the College Football Playoff over Oklahoma.

Simpson also impressed scouts with his knowledge of the game. So, some coaches may not think that he’s ready for the NFL, but the Rams apparently beg to differ.
