by

Archery Canada has announced the appointment of Junior Bolaños as national coach for its Olympic programmes, strengthening the country’s high-performance pathway as it builds towards future international success.

Bolaños brings more than 20 years of international coaching experience, having worked with national teams across the Americas in both recurve and compound disciplines. He has previously held coaching and technical leadership roles with Venezuela and Argentina, and has supported development and performance programmes in several countries including El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Bolivia and Paraguay.

Most recently, Bolaños was involved in leading Chile’s national archery programme, working across Olympic, Paralympic and youth pathways while supporting qualification preparation and long-term athlete development.

The 50-year-old is also an active member of the international archery community, having served and continuing to serve as a member of the World Archery coaches committee and World Archery Americas development committee.

Archery Canada said the appointment reinforces its commitment to strengthening technical standards and athlete preparation within the national team structure.

This transition period will allow him to gain insight into our systems, while beginning to assume leadership of the Olympic programme,” said high performance manager Kylah Cawley. “We are looking forward to working with him as he settles into the role.”

Bolaños also brings a strong academic and performance science background, holding a degree in physical education and sport with a specialisation in biomechanics and movement mechanics. His experience includes work as a physical trainer in elite sport environments, contributing to athlete conditioning and performance optimisation.

In his new role, Bolaños will work closely with Archery Canada’s high-performance staff, supporting national team athletes and contributing to programme planning and development as the federation builds towards upcoming international competitions and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.

The appointment reflects Archery Canada’s ongoing focus on building a sustainable performance system and supporting athlete development from grassroots through to the Olympic stage.
