Arizona State freshman basketball standout Joson Sanon has been named Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week. The coveted five-star prospect helped the Sun Devils to wins over Grand Canyon and St. Thomas (Minn.) which moved their record to 4-1 on the season.

Sanon averaged 19.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in 30.5 minutes, providing a critical spark off the bench. He shot an extremely efficient 14-for-23 (61%) from the field including an 8-of-12 (67%) from three-point range over the two-game span.

In Sunday’s 81-66 win over St. Thomas at Desert Financial Arena, Sanon scored 18 points with nine rebounds.

Three days earlier he ignited ASU to an 87-76 win over Grand Canyon at the Footprint Center with a team-high 21 points and three rebounds. He is also the first Sun Devil to be recognized by a conference since Desmond Cambridge Jr. captured his third Pac-12 Player of the Week honor after he hit the game-winning shot from beyond half court that resulted in a dramatic 89-88 victory for Arizona State over No. 7 Arizona back in February of 2023.

Sanon shared the newcomer honor with Egor Demin of BYU who averaged 15 points, six assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in two wins.

Player of the Week honors went to Hunter Dickinson of Kansas, who led his team to a 77-69 win over Michigan State with 28 points and 12 rebounds, marking his 50th career double-double.

ASU is back on the floor at Desert Financial Arena at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against Cal Poly.
