Arizona State’s Jonny Kulow Wins Big 12’s Bob Bowlsby Award
Arizona State men’s swimmer Jonny Kulow was the only male winner of the Big 12’s annual Bob Bowlsby Award, announced on Tuesday.
Kulow is the only male winner of the ward this year, joining TCU basketball player Olivia Miles and Cincinnati track and field athlete Juliette Laracuente-Huebner on the women’s side.
The fourth annual award is given to student-athletes, “who exemplify leadership and achievement on and off the field.” Winners are voted by league athletic directors. The award honors former the conference commissioner.
Kulow is a five-time NCAA champion and 22-time All-American who wrapped up his career this season. A four-time Academic All-American, he maintained a 4.0 GPA all eight semesters as a microbiology major. He served as a team captain for two years, leading Arizona State to the NCAA team title in 2024.
As a senior, he helped the Sun Devils win NCAA titles in the 200 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 free relay. They set an NCAA record in the 200 free at NCAAs and an NCAA mark in the 400 free relay at the Big 12 Championships, at which the Sun Devils eased to the team title.
Kulow was part of conference championships all four years, the first two in the Pac-12 and then the last two in the Big 12. He was an eight-time Big 12 champion, five of them his junior year to be named Big 12 Swimmer of the Meet at the 2025 conference championships.
The sprinter has represented the United States internationally at the Pan American Games and World Championships, winning a combined eight medals.
