Lasko, 24, sustained the injury during a game with the Midland RockHounds — the Double A affiliate of the Athletics. Taylor got up quickly and chased down the ball, escaping the collision without a major injury. Lasko remained down on the field and was later carted off. Video of the collision is pretty ugly, but can be viewed here.
Following the collision, Lasko underwent spinal decompression and stabilization surgery after fracturing his C6-C7 vertebra, per MLB.com. He is in stable condition.
Due to swelling, however, Lasko does not have feeling in his lower half yet, MLB.com reported. Team manager Mark Kotsay addressed Lasko’s injury Wednesday, saying “there’s hope the feeling comes back.”
Lasko entered the season as the team’s No. 18 prospect, per MLB.com. After being selected by the team in the second round of the 2023 MLB Draft, Lasko worked his way up to Triple-A last season.
He opened the 2026 season in Double-A. Through 281 plate appearances, Lasko is hitting .209./.275/.360.
