Before joining the Dream for the 2025 season, Griner played with the Phoenix Mercury. She did so since 2013, carving out a legendary career in Phoenix.

Many fans likely circled her return to Phoenix on the calendar, which may be her second game back against the Mercury, having already made her official return several weeks ago.

On Sunday, Griner entered the matchup against the Phoenix Mercury as questionable. Before tip-off, the Dream center was seen warming up with Atlanta.

Just before the game began, Griner was listed as available, set to play in her first matchup in August after missing three straight games.

Throughout her third season in the WNBA, Brittney Griner has posted 10.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game for the Atlanta Dream.

She’s played a large role in helping Atlanta soar up the league standings, putting the Dream in position to compete for a league title with the help of Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray.

Howard has also missed time this season, having suffered a knee injury against the Indiana Fever in July.

Brittney Griner is widely regarded as one of the best centers in WNBA history.

Before joining the Atlanta Dream, Griner led the Phoenix Mercury to a title and was named a nine-time All-Star, eight-time block champion and two-time scoring champion.
