Australian Trials, Day 2, Prelims: Alex Perkins Sets New Australian All-Comers Record Of 25.46 in The 50m Butterfly

by

Paris Olympian Alexandria Perkins is on a roll at the World Trials meet in Adelaide, taking down Cate Campbell’s seven-year-old Australian All-Comers 50m butterfly record, clocking a time of 25.46 in the day two heats session.

Four-time Olympian Campbell, who was in the commentary booth calling the race, set the previous mark of 24.57 in Brisbane in 2018, while Perkins time is the fifth fastest in the world this year.

Perkins showed no ill-affects from last night’s sizzling swim to qualify for the Singapore World’s in the 100m butterfly with her 56.42 – the second fastest time in the world this year and the third fastest time by an Australian, behind Emma McKeon and Jess Schipper.

Rackley’s Lily Price, second home last night in the 100m also clocking a qualifying time for her first World Championships, was also the second fastest qualifier today in another personal best of 25.99.
