Kam Jones put on a special show at Fiserv Forum Saturday afternoon for Marquette basketball.
A national audience saw it. A sold-out, record crowd at Fiserv Forum saw it. And college basketball fans on social media saw it.
The response was the same for everyone: amazement.
The senior guard poured in 32 points on 12 of 21 shooting from all over the court to go along with six assists and four steals to lead the Golden Eagles to an impressive 88-74 victory over in-state rival, Wisconsin.
Jones’ performance led to some basketball prognosticators declaring him the best point guard in the country and now the frontrunner for national player of the year.
Yes, there are still three months left in the season. But it was that special.
The 32 points were the most by a Marquette player against Wisconsin in the history of the rivalry. Yes, more than Butch Lee, George Thompson, Dwyane Wade, Jerel McNeal, Dominic James, Lazar Hayward, Markus Howard and all the other great scorers of Marquette’s rich past. It was Jones’ second 30-plus point game of the young season. Oh, and it came a few days after Jones injured his ankle in Marquette’s loss at Iowa State.
Marquette (9-1) had entered the contest winless against Wisconsin (8-2) in its last three games. Jones left no doubt that streak would end.

Marquette beats Wisconsin, 88-74. Final stat line for Kam Jones:
32 pts, 6 assts, 4 steals, 2 rebounds, 0 turnovers.
Allow me to remove the question mark. He is the best PG in the country.

The biggest thing that I’m impressed with regarding Kam Jones?
His ball security.
Seven assists and NO turnovers today to go along with 32 points.
26 assists to 3 turnovers in his last three games.
Best guard in the sport. https://t.co/x9TDEj6kF7

FINAL: Marquette 88, Wisconsin 74
The last time #mubb beat UW at Fiserv there were zero fans in the building.
This time Kam Jones scores 32 points in front of 18,107 at Fiserv Forum.

Kam Jones wasn’t leaving Marquette without a win over Wisconsin. His legend keeps growing. An all-timer, and we are so lucky. #mubb
