Bill Belichick, UNC football program add three commitments on Sunday

The North Carolina Tar Heels continue building the future for their football program, a task which suddenly became easier with December’s hiring of new head coach Bill Belichick.

UNC added numerous players through the transfer portal, headlined by 4-star cornerback and former Washington Husky Thaddeus Dixon. Several 2024 Tar Heel starters, most notably emerging star linebacker Amare Campbell, withdrew their names from the portal after Belichick’s hiring.

High school recruits also want to play for the 8-time Super Bowl Champion in Belichick, who we become increasingly excited about with the season still seven months away.

Three more recruits – two in the Class of 2025, plus one in the Class of 2026 – chose North Carolina as their college destination over the weekend.

2025 wide receiver/edge rusher Kenedy Uzoma, 2025 defensive lineman Kamarion Thomas and 2026 running back Crew Davis all committed to UNC on Sunday, February 2.

The Tar Heels stole Uzoma, listed as an Edge on his 247Sports Recruiting Profile – but a wide receiver in the following InsideCarolina commitment story – from Minnesota. Uzoma, ranked as Maryland’s 33rd-overall prospect, showcased his versatility in his 2024 fall season: 34 catches for 817 yards and 12 touchdowns, plus 24 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

According to 247Sports, Thomas didn’t know a ton about UNC before Belichick recruited him. Thomas, who generated 20 tackles for loss, was surprised – and excited – to be speaking with Belichick again on Sunday.

“I was talking to the GOAT,” the 6-foot-3, 280-pound Thomas told 247Sports’ Brian Dohn. “He (Belichick) coached Tom Brady so I was like, ‘Damn, I’m really talking to him right now?’ He told me some good news I wanted to hear. He told me I had an offer. I was amazed he did that. My reaction was I was screaming quietly. I was like, ‘This is dope.’ “

Davis, who tallied over 2,000 scrimmage yards and 23 touchdowns during his senior season for New York’s top-ranked Iona Prep squad, could also play lacrosse according to TarHeelIllustrated.

Uzoma and Thomas should be key contributors for North Carolina in the fall, particularly on a defensive line that lost Kaimon Rucker, Des Evans and Jahvaree Ritzie. I’m also excited to see Davis, the multi-sport athlete, contribute in several ways the following season.
