Blackhawks’ High First Round Draft Target Becoming Clearer

by

The Chicago Blackhawks are 31st in the NHL and are likely going to have a lottery pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. If the Blackhawks hold their position or move up or down by one spot, there is a good chance that they can draft probably the most electric player in the draft, Michael Misa.

Misa, along with Matthew Schaefer, James Hagens, and Porter Martone, are the fourth prime picks of the upcoming draft, but the Blackhawks don’t need another defenseman. This should eliminate Schaefer from their sights unless Chicago drops to fourth and he’s still sitting there.

Wherever the Blackhawks pick, Misa has stood out offensively and the Blackhawks surely need some more offense. He is the first player in the CHL to reach 100 points this season, and did so in just 48 games, scoring 44 goals and recording 56 assists.

Misa plays for the Saginaw Spirit and recorded a hat trick in his next game after reaching 100 points. He now sits at 47 goals already. He has been very fun to watch and impressive since first stepping into the OHL as he’s remained over a point-per-game throughout his three seasons.

There is a lot to like about Misa’s game like his skating, shooting, playmaking, and hockey IQ, but there is room for improvement defensively. It’s harder to teach pure talent like he has than to teach a player how to play the right way all over the ice. Any lapses in his defensive game can be sorted out, but he could be the final piece the Blackhawks need to add before the team finally takes steps forward.

Connor Bedard needs a running mate, and although there are some talented forward prospects and players already in the system or on the team, none are likely at the same level as Misa.
