The Portland Trail Blazers are reportedly showing “serious interest” in pursuing Jaylen Brown should the Boston Celtics decide to make him available, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.
While Brown is not currently on the trade market, league sources indicate Portland is closely monitoring the situation and could become a significant player if Boston moves forward with a blockbuster deal involving Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.
In a scenario where the Celtics successfully acquire Antetokounmpo, the Blazers would be in a particularly strong position to help facilitate the transaction while simultaneously making a push for Brown.
Portland possesses a valuable collection of Milwaukee draft assets, controlling the Bucks’ first-round picks in 2028, 2029, and 2030 as a result of the 2023 Damian Lillard trade.
Those picks could give the Trail Blazers leverage in any complex, multi-team negotiations. From Portland’s perspective, Brown would address a major roster need.
As a proven two-way star and an All-NBA caliber wing, he would bring elite scoring, defensive versatility, leadership, and playoff experience to a franchise looking to accelerate its competitive timeline.
His ability to impact both ends of the floor makes him an especially attractive target for a young team seeking a cornerstone player.
There is also an element of long-term security attached to Brown’s situation. Although he is eligible for a contract extension this offseason, he remains under contract through the 2028-29 campaign.
That existing deal would provide Portland with a substantial window to build around him rather than facing immediate concerns about free agency.
Brown is coming off what many consider the finest individual season of his NBA career. Across 71 appearances last season, he averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists while logging 34.4 minutes per game.
