The Columbus Blue Jackets may find themselves further down in the standings than they would have liked. However, in the first 19 games of the season, they have had some huge wins.

The Blue Jackets record is 8-9-2 through their 19 games. Interestingly enough, five of their eight wins have been against some of the NHL’s top teams.

It started with the second game of the season when they beat the Colorado Avalanche 6-4 on Oct. 12. Only 10 days later, on Oct. 22, they beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-2.

Although the Edmonton Oilers have struggled this season, they are one of the NHL’s top offensive teams. On Oct. 28, the Blue Jackets beat the Oilers 6-1.

After a long stretch of struggles, the Blue Jackets beat the Boston Bruins on Nov. 18, which was the final straw in the Bruins firing Jim Montgomery.

They then followed that up with a huge win last night against the Tampa Bay Lightning, who were at one point leading the game 3-1. However, they showed heart and a willingness to stay in the game and were able to win the game 7-6 in overtime.

Regardless of the Blue Jackets record and where they sit in the standings. These types of wins against top opponents in the NHL are not only character wins; they are also games that teach younger players how to be a pro in the NHL.

The Blue Jackets may be lower in the standings, but they are a team to keep on your radar.
