Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jesús Sánchez left Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles with an injury.

When Sánchez left the game, he was accompanied by a trainer and by manager John Schneider. The outfielder was favoring his right hand/wrist.

The injury occurred during the bottom of the sixth inning, where the Orioles were leading 6-0 and had two base runners on.

A replay of the broadcast showed that Sánchez may have signaled to the stands, but it could have been a wave. Either way, after doing it, a fan threw a baseball at Sánchez, and it hit him in the right hand/wrist.

The shock of being hit unexpectedly likely caught Sánchez off guard, and he then began favoring his hand and wrist, prompting trainers to come out.

Toronto released an update saying the outfielder was removed due to a “right wrist contusion.” X-rays for a fracture came back negative.

The Orioles released a statement saying the fan has been identified and removed from the game. Baltimore also said it will conduct a full investigation into the matter.

Sánchez began the game batting sixth for Toronto. He had a single in the second inning off of Kyle Bradish. It didn’t lead to anything as Charles McAdoo grounded into an inning-ending double play.

In his second at-bat of the day, Sánchez grounded out to third base. He was replaced in the bottom of the sixth inning by Yohendrick Pinango, who hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning to cut the Baltimore lead to four runs.

Sánchez is playing in his seventh season in the major leagues. He joined the Blue Jays in the 2026 offseason. Sánchez has played in 56 games this season and is hitting .285 with six home runs and 28 RBI.
