On Monday night, the Boston College men’s basketball team hosted the Farleigh Dicinson Knights at Conte Forum for some Christmas-week action. The Eagles got off to a slow start, but eventually rallied in the second half to claim a 72-61 victory.
The game began with a series of cold streaks for BC. The Eagles didn;t score any points in the game’s opening three minutes. Then after some back-and-forth play, BC remained stuck between 15-20 points for about 4 minutes while FDU cruised to score 33, taking an early lead. The Knights hit a flurry of three-pointers that BC struggled to defend, and it could have gotten much worse if Donald Hand hadn’t started aggressively driving towards the basket to keep BC in the game. After plenty of missed Eagles shots, FDU led 33-25 at halftime.

Within seven minutes of the second half, Boston College had reclaimed the lead. Fred Payne and Luka Toews went on a shot-making streak over FDU’s soft defense in the lane to claw their way back into the game, eventually capped off by a Boden Kapke lay-up to take a 44-43 lead. Both teams hit hard in the paint after that, scoring contested lay-ups on either side to keep the game close as it entered the final minutes. It was Luka Toews who began to put the game on ice. His two three-pointers and made free throw at the end of the game gave BC the cushion it needed to come out with a victory.
Toews finished as the game’s leading scorer (23 points) and assist leader (3), while Aidan Shaw racked up 11 rebounds. Donald Hand, Fred Payne, Caleb Steger, and Boden Kapke all also scored in double digits to help give BC the win. The 3PT% (33%) and free throw rate (56%) continue to be issues, but it was enough to get it done tonight. Next up, the Eagles face Le Moyne on Sunday December 28th at 2PM.
