Boys basketball roundup: Paynesville rallies for a win in its home opener

Dec. 6—PAYNESVILLE — Carter Flanders racked up 22 points to lead Paynesville to its first win and a victory against Section 3AA North opponent New London-Spicer in its home opener before a good crowd.

The junior guard’s scoring helped the Bulldogs erase a seven-point halftime deficit in their 77-71 non-conference win on Friday. Paynesville is 1-1 and the Wildcats are 0-2.

Esau Nelson, Reed Johnson and Derek Mergen were also in the double figures for the Bulldogs. Nelson, a 6-foot-1 junior forward, tacked on 18 points. Johnson, a 5-11 junior guard, piled on 14 points. Mergen, a 5-11 junior guard, put up 10 points.

Beckett Newman and Brayden Skindelien had 15-point nights for NLS. Newman, a 6-0 junior guard, shot 6 of 17. Skindelien was 5 of 13 from the field and was 2-for-2 on free throws.NLS plays Minnewaska for a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood. The Bulldogs host Litchfield for a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Paynesville.

Jackson Yanke had 19 points and Judsen Whittaker and Cole Veith each scored 12 to lead Dassel-Cokato past Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City at Cokato.

DC hit nine three-pointers to ACGC’s three. The Falcons led 35-26 before the Chargers out-scored ACGC 40-24 in the second half.

Marcus Forsythe had 30 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots for ACGC. It was the 6-foot-6 senior post’s second straight game with 30 points.

Prestan Lilleberg, a 6-5 senior wing, added 14 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists for the Falcons.ACGC hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart for a non-conference game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Grove City.

Eden Valley-Watkins earned the victory over Litchfield at Eden Valley.

Litchfield plays a non-conference game at Paynesville at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Wakinyan GreyCloud knocked down 33 points in Yellow Medicine East’s win at Canby.

Greycloud, a 6-foot-2 junior guard, shot 13 of 21 from the field and was 4-for-4 on free throws.

Jacob Peterson piled on 22 points for the Sting. Gavin Torvik had 12 points.

YME hosts Minneota for a Camden Conference game at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Granite Falls.

Lac qui Parle Valley came away with a conference victory against the Trojans at Ortonville.

LQPV hosts Dawson-Boyd for a Camden Conference game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Madison.

Brady Reinertson had 20 points, six rebounds, five assists, eight steals and two blocked shots in Community Christian School’s victory over Fourth Baptist at Plymouth.

Jack Velyan added 10 points for the Eagles.CCS hosts the Prior Lake Royals for a Minnesota Christian Athletic Conference game at 7 p.m. Friday at Willmar.
