The WNBA’ historic and transformational new CBA is still being lauded as the 2026 season approaches, and one of the key figures in helping get the deal done was New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart.

As one of the vice presidents of the players’ union, Breanna Stewart was instrumental throughout the negotiations for the new WNBA CBA, and the Liberty star recently spoke about what makes the deal so significant, as per Natalie Esquire of NBC Sports.
“I think it’s incredible. I think that we were working tirelessly on the CBA, and while it probably went months too long, I’m happy that we were able to kind of hold out and get what we wanted,” Stewart said. “I just felt like we really were negotiating in that last week when you guys saw us in those rooms every single day. But I’m excited, I’m excited for the future, for what’s to come.
“The fact that all players are getting to actually feel valued and their worth and to really kind of go after and get that … this is like the baseline. This is the starting point. Wherever we were before was kind of lesser. And now we really are getting ourselves at face value, and that’s only going to continue to grow.”
When it comes to the players getting what they’re worth, Stewart is one who has definitely reaped the benefits of that. She recently signed a new three-year contract with the Liberty worth around $3.75 million. A higher salary cap, and with it, higher salaries, were one of the main aspects of the new CBA.
