UConn legend Breanna Stewart knows a thing or two about championship celebrations. The four-time NCAA champion has plenty of experience with parades and ring ceremonies, but this offseason, she got to celebrate bringing the first-ever WNBA title to New York.
Stewart and her Liberty teammates raised the 2024 championship banner to the rafters at the Barclays Center ahead of their season opener on Saturday, then received their championship rings.

The Liberty beat the Minnesota Lynx in five games in last year’s WNBA Finals.
The party just kept going on Sunday, as Stewie threw out the first pitch at the Yankees-Mets game at Yankee Stadium.
“I was definitely throwing from the rubber. I’ve seen some other people not throw from the mound, but I didn’t wanna do that. I threw before in Seattle. I had some practice in the back,” Stewart told the New York Daily News. “I want to try from where the real pros throw.”
Stewart was joined on the field by her Liberty teammates. She kept the championship ring on during the first pitch.
Originally from North Syracuse, N.Y., Stewart grew up a Yankees fan and said the ceremony was “a big deal for our entire family.”
“It’s Yankees or bust. I feel like I signed to the Yankees honestly,” Stewart said.
Stewart and the Liberty are 1-0 on the season after defeating the Aces, 92-78 on Saturday.
